Assalamu Alaykum!

Every bride's dream is to have a perfect wedding. With everything goes as planned. But let’s face the reality that planning a wedding is not easy. It can become a mess if not planned carefully. It requires a lot of patience and open-mindedness. Weddings are once in a lifetime only and focusing on impressing people will be stressful. Hadith says: The most blessed nikah is the one with the least expences.

So bride-to-be, here’s my idea based on my personal experience on handling a Muslim wedding.
Hope you find it helpful.

o   Specify your budget
Establish a budget and stick to it. Everything depends on the budget and make sure it is approved by the people who are paying for it.

o   Pick a venue
The wedding do not need to be in Mosque.  It’s fine but it is preferable when the wedding and reception is to be held in one place. It will minimize the stress, time and budget.
See to it that it is a convenient location for Muslim guests.
If it’s in a closed hall or open space like a garden, make sure that the temperature is comfortable.

o   Set the date and time
The date will depend on the availability of your venue and guests.
Do not set the time on prayer hours like Dhuhur and Asar. Morning weddings are preferable for Muslims, 9:30-10:30 am are the best time to start the ceremony.

o   Pick a theme
Research your dream wedding hall design. The internet is full of beautiful design details. Recommend it to your decoration committee which is usually provided already by your chosen venue. Make it simple but elegant. It is very important to see the venue the day before the wedding to make sure that the theme or motif matches the overall appearance or if it is the way you want it to be.

o   Decide who will officiate the Nikah ceremony
You may need two witnesses, bride’s male guardian, a Wali and Imam. An Ustadz, a pious man or any knowledgeable man who knows about the Islamic tradition of Nikah can perform the marriage ceremony. You may ask a professional or a well experienced regarding this matter.

o   Pick the wedding party
Decide if you are going to have a wedding party. The members won’t play a part in the whole ceremony except for the processional and for picture taking purposes. So ask yourself if it is worth spending your money.  If you decide to have a wedding party decide who and how many will be part of it. Bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, Qur-an bearer and marriage contract bearer are the usual members. Keep it simple.

o   Select the clothing
Finding a perfect clothing as well as getting the measurement for the bridal party will require a considerable amount of time so it should be done preferably at least two months before the wedding. Don’t forget the shoes.  Then schedule a date where the rest of the party can try their clothing on and get it early if there are changes to be made.

o   Make a guest list
Guest lists usually ranges from 200-300 persons depending on the venue and budget. Determine how many people your venue can accommodate. Then get the name of guests. This will also help you determine the number of invitations you are going to make.

o   Make wedding invitations
Research the type of wedding invitation you want. You can make your own customized design or go to a professional. Make it simple and wordings shorter. If possible, send it out two weeks before the wedding. This will be enough time for your guests to save the date of your wedding.

In this blog I have personally made samples of Muslim wedding invitations designs and wordings for your simple reference. Check here...

o   Choose your bridal car
You can rent or borrow a suitable car for wedding. If you own a car, make sure it iscleaned days  before the wedding to avoid hassle.

o   Pick your emcee
Your emcee should be a man not a woman. Should have a sense of humor and a good speaker. Give the emcee a printed program of the wedding ceremony. Give him proper instruction about the order of events.

My Muslim Wedding Emcee Script post  check here...

o   Pick the photographer, videographer and sound director
Of course you want your wedding to be memorable. You can hire a professional or assign a distant relative or a friend who knows how to do the task.

o   Organize a wedding program
This will serve as a guide for your emcee, to those who have speeches and roles to play in the entire wedding ceremony. This is the key to an organized wedding.

o   Make it Memorable
Play a slideshow during the wedding about the bride and the groom. It can be photos of them since infant up to present or some dramatic presentation of their individual journey.
You can also have a person both from groom's and bride’s side (preferably best friend) to give speeches.

o   Make it Islamic

Have a Qari recite some nasheeds and book an Ustadz who will give speech and Islamic advice regarding matters about Muslim Husband and wife in Islam. Additionally, guests are separated by gender. Men are needed to be separated from women during the whole wedding ceremony.

Assalamu Alaykum!

My husband and I were the emcees in #AliaAndNur wedding. Well, unfortunately, my husband only did the introduction part because he had to substitute the photographer (long boring story, haha). And based on that experience, I realized that hosting a wedding is much better when it is done solo. It’s better and easier because you are the master of your own script and you don’t have to wait for the “key” when you are about to talk. Overall, it is less stressful. So if things doesn't go exactly as planned (like what happened to us), it’s easy to manage and you don’t have to re-write the script. Of course it very important to be prepared mentally and be attentive always.
Below is a solo emcee script. I’ve researched some ideas on Google and come up with my own Muslim Wedding version. Actually, some of it were originally written in our native Maguindanaon language which I translated only in English. My husband and I come up with the idea that we should speak our language for our elders babo and bapa. Also, I edited it for a solo emcee. Originally a double emcee. I attached the wedding program to make it less complicated (haha). Muslim weddings are a bit complicated.
Hoping you find it useful.

Introduction

Ladies and gentlemen, May I have your attention please.
Assalamu Alaykum Warahmatullahi Taala Wabarakatuho
A pleasant morning to everyone and Welcome to Alia and Nur’s wedding.
I am Ali and I will be your emcee for this event.
Wow! Everybody’d looking great today! Ma Sha Allah!

Anyway, we are all here now for the reception and other parts of the program because the wedding was already done this morning around 10am at a mosque in Purok 16. And to enlighten our non-Muslim guests, in Islam, only the groom, the witnesses, and other VIP’s are allowed to participate in Marriage rituals or the “Nikah” as we Muslims call it.The bride and the groom will only be united after that.

So before anything else, on behalf of the bride and the groom, I would like to thank you all for being with us today. Especially for those who travelled many miles just to be with us. To those who came from Palimbang, Ambalgan, and even in Libak. Thank you so much to all of you.
And now for the most awaited moment! The very reason why we are all gathered here!
Let us now witness, the parade of the wedding entourage!

After procession
Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to introduce to you, for the first time
The bride and the groom. Alia and Nur

Signing of Marriage Contract
And to formally tie their marriage by law, may I call on Miss Zahra Ibrahim..please..
With her is the famous marriage contract to be signed by our newly weds.
There! Finally! Mabrouk to both of you. You are now officially Mr. and Mrs. Gogolintang! How about that Alia, you are no longer Fermin now.
Congratulation again.

Acknowledgments
A wedding not only unite two hearts as one, but also bring each hearts of the two families together. I mean like me, when I married my wife, I surely marry her family too. It’s like making a big family a bigger one. And for the family of our newlyweds, I’m sure that they’re very happy and proud of Alia and Nur. Yes, especially their parents. Every parents dream is too see their children on their wedding day. And that they are as much excited as their children right now.
So now, allow me to acknowledge these very special people in the hearts of our newlyweds.
The groom’s parents: Mr. John Heitz and Mrs. Heitz
The bride’s Parents: Mr. Abdullah Fermin and Mrs. Amina Fermin
Thankyou so much!
I would also like to acknowledge the following individuals who extended their support to our newlyweds during the whole wedding preparation.

Speeches
Okay. Moving on for the special part of this ceremony. We want to make this day more special. So we would like to tickle a little bit emotion from our newlyweds. Give them a few heads up and emotional message. Of course who knows them better than their best friend right? And now I would like to call on first, yes ladies first… the bride’s best friend Ms. Hendra Usop.
(after the speech)
Thankyou so much Ms. Usop. That was very touching. You almost ruined the Alia’s make-up.
(talk about the message)
And, ofcourse… for our groom, please.. The groom’s best man none other than Ronnie Gogolintang..
(after the speech)
Thankyou so much. Wow! That was something!
(again talk about the message)

Now, the next speech is very important. I would like our newlyweds to listen very carefully to this, okay?I would like to callUstads Haron Sabiwang to give our newlyweds some Islamic advice regarding matters aboutMuslim Husband and wife in Islam.
(after speech)
Thank you so much Ustadz for all the knowledge that you’ve shared. That was very useful not only for our newlyweds but for other married couples that are present here today. We are once again reminded of our duties and responsibilities as a Muslim. Alhamdulillah

Closing Remarks
This time. I guess we have finally reached the end of this ceremony. So for the last part, may I call on the groom’s father, Abdullah Fermin to finally close the program.
(after speech)
Thank you so much Ama. Okay that’s it. Now that the lunch is already served. Have a happy lunch. It’s been a great morning and again Ithank you all for coming. Picture taking later.
 Assalamu Alaykum Warahmatullah
